titleOfInvention Supervisory system of optical fiber cable transmission line
abstract PURPOSE:To enable to designate a faulty point of a cable in a short section, by transmitting a supervisory signal to the metallic supporting body of an optical fiber cable, and receiving said supervisory signal by a supervisory signal receiver of the terminal station. CONSTITUTION:Transmission by means of a light signal is executed between the terminal station 11 and 12, and also a supervisory oscillation signal of frequencies which have been assigned from each connection box 8 and the repeater 9, respectively attains to the terminal stations 11, 12 through the supporting body 5. It is selectively received by the supervisory signal receivers 19, 20. When the system is under normal condition, the supervisory signal of each frequency is received by the receivers 19, 20 at a prescribed level. When a cut fault has occurred in the optical fiber cable, the cable having a cut point contacts with sea water and is grounded. As a result, although a light signal is cut off, the receivers 19, 20 are able to receive the supervisory signal. In this case, only a supervisory signal which is transmitted from a connection box 8 before the cut point, or the repeater 9 is received, it is discriminated by the assigned frequency, and it is possible to detect and indicate the section in which the cut point is located.
