PURPOSE:To increase the ratio of Fe<2+> based on the total iron content in glass remarkably, by melting a raw material for soda-lime glass with a moisture content adjusted to a specific range containing iron, and vitrifying the resultant melt. CONSTITUTION:The moisture content of a raw material for soda-lime glass containing iron in the form of Fe2O3, etc. is adjusted to 5-11wt%. The raw material for soda-lime glass after the moisture adjustment is molten in an atmosphere of low oxygen concentration at a temperature of 1,450 deg.C, quenched and vitrified. The ratio of Fe<2+> to the total iron content in the resultant glass, i.e. Fe<2+>/(Fe<2+>+Fe<3+>), is remarkably increased, and the oxidation-reduction equilibrium of Fe ions can be adjusted. |
