PURPOSE: Raw material pitch for carbon fibers capable of providing carbon fibers having high modulus of elasticity and high strength, obtained by using precursor pitch prepared by adding a hydrogenated oil with its aromatic nucleus hydrogenated to a sepcific fraction obtained by decomposing petroleum with steam, followed by heat-treating them. n CONSTITUTION: (B) 10W200pts.vol. hydrogenated oil obtained by heat-treating at 380W480°C (i) a fraction having a boiling point of 160W400°C prepared by decomposing petroleum with steam and/or (ii) a heavy oil having a boiling point of ≥200°C prepared by decomposing petroleum with steam to form a fraction having a boiling point of 160W400°C, followed by bringing the fraction into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst so that 10W 70wt% aromatic nucleus of aromatic hydrocarbon contained in the fraction is hydrogenated, is added to (A) 100pts.vol. heavy oil having a boiling point of ≥200°C obtained by decomposing petroleum with steam, and the blend is heat- treated at 380W480°C at 2W50kg/cm 2 .G, to give raw material pitch for carbon fibers. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio |
