PURPOSE: The titled pigment of titanium dioxide useful as a colorant for PE film, etc., having improved dispersibility in molten polymer and heat stability during molding and processing, obtained by coating titanium dioxide with a hydrated oxide of aluminum and a polyhydric alcohol type compound in not more than specific amounts respectively. n CONSTITUTION: For example, a water-soluble compound of Al is added to an aqueous slurry of titanium dioxide, which is neutralized, and a hydrated oxide of Al is precipitated on the surface of titanium dioxide. The slurry is filtered and dried. A polyhydric alcohol type compound (preferably a ≤10C hydrocarbon compound having preferably 2W4 OH groups in the molecule, e.g., trimethylolmethane, etc.) is added to titanium dioxide, for example, during grinding of coated titanium dioxide, to give the desired pigment wherein the surfaces of titanium dioxide particles are covered with <0.5wt% (preferably 0.2W0.4wt%) calculated as Al 2 O 3 of hydrated oxide of Al and <1.5wt% (preferably 0.2W0.6wt%) polyhydric alcohol type compound. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio |
