abstract PURPOSE:To perform effectively and easily a control for changing a roll crown in the longitudinal direction of a roll body by installing a hot water spraying means and a cold water spraying means in the longitudinal direction and at the inlet and outlet sides of a mill and regulating the spraying quantities of them. CONSTITUTION:At the inlet and outlet sides of an upper work roll 2U of a mill, plural hot-water spraying nozzles 3U and cold water spraying nozzles 4U are arranged parallelly and oppositely to the roll surface just before or after the roll 2U contacts a rolling material 10. Spraying-quantity regulating valves 5U, 6U are provided to both nozzles 3U, 4U respectively, to change the spraying quantities of hot and cold water to be sprayed on the roll surface. The same mechanism is provided to a lower work roll 2L. With the aids of these mechanisms, a roll crown in formed by distributing the expansion and contraction of roll diameter in the longitudinal direction of the roll body. The distributions of spraying quantities of hot water and cold water are controlled basing on the roll expanding quantity obtained previously.
