titleOfInvention Thermal transfer material
abstract PURPOSE:To favorably print even on a recording medium having poor surface smoothness, by a method wherein a thermally transferrable ink layer in which microcapsules containing a coloring agent and an oil agent are dispersed in a heat-fusible binder is provided on a base. CONSTITUTION:A coloring agent such as a dye and a pigment, e.g., carbon black or a Nigrosine dye, and an oil agent which is liquid or semisolid at normal temperature, e.g., cottonseed oil, lanolin or veseline, are microencapsulated. A capsule wall material for use in microencapsulating is a thermoplastic resin having a glass transition point under heating of 0-120 deg.C, e.g., shellac, rosin or a cellulose derivative. A coating liquid obtained by dispersing the microcapsules 5 in a heat-fusible binder is applied to the base 2 to provide the heat-fusible ink layer 3 having a thickness after drying of 1-30mum. The amount of the binder 4 used is 2-200 parts per 10 parts of the microcapsules.
