titleOfInvention | Contact lens material |
abstract | PURPOSE:To obtain the titled material having improved oxygen permeability an transparency, and lessening a generation of a strain by constituting the titled material from a polymer having a specific fluoroalkyl group. CONSTITUTION:The contact lens material is composed of the polymer having a structural unit shown by the formula. A polymerization method can be used the well-known method of polymerizing fluorine-contg. methacrylates. A vinyl monomer contg. a hydrogen atom or a methyl group at alpha-position has a small polymerization rate, and merely produces a grease-like polymer having a low mol.wt. While the vinyl monomer contg. a fluorine atom at alpha-position has a large polymerization rate, and produces a tough polymer having a high mol.wt. and an excellent mechanical strength. As the titled material has a higher glass transition temp. than that of a bodily temp., when the titled lens is applied to an eye, the titled lens having good hardness, oxygen permeability and anti- contamination properties is obtd. The polymerization of the monomer is carried out in the absence of the catalyst, thereby obtaining the titled lens having the good transparency. |
