titleOfInvention | Production of mesocarbon microbead free from attached ingredient on surface |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain mesocarbon micro-bead free from surface attachment easily, by heating a coal-based carbonaceous material until the heat-treated pitch is separated into two phases, removing the lower phase, and washing the upper phase with an aromatic solvent. n CONSTITUTION: A coal-based carbonaceous material such as coal tar, coal tar pitch, etc., is heated to 350W500°C until the material is separated into two phases comprising the upper phase consisting of a pitch containing optically anisotropic microspheres and the lower phase consisting of a pitch having an optical anisotropy of ≥70%. The lower layer is removed and the upper layer is washed with an aromatic solvent (e.g. quinoline, anthracene oil, etc.) to obtain the objective mesocarbon micro-bead free from surface attachment. The obtained mesocarbon micro-bead is suitable as a high-density carbon material, adsorbent, chromatographic material, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio |
