titleOfInvention Aluminum alloy reinforced with silicon carbide short fiber
abstract PURPOSE: To improve mechanical characteristic such as bending strength and impulsion resistance, by using a silicon carbide short fiber having a specified vol. ratio as reinforcing fiber, to Al-Cu-Mg alloy matrix having a specified compsn. n CONSTITUTION: The silicon carbide short fibers 1 are compacted to orient them randomly in three dimensions, and to form a fiber compact 2 having 5W50% vol. ratio. The compact 2 is heated and arranged in a mold cavity 4 of a mold 3. A molten Al alloy 5 contg. 2W6% Cu, 0W2% Mg is poured in the mold 3, and solidified under the state being pressed by a plunger 6. Next, Al alloy part at outer circumference of solidified body is machined and removed. By composite material composed of the titled alloy, used quantity of reinforcing fiber can be decreased. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
