Color, white; molecular formula, C37H61NO12; molecular weight, 711; melting point, 148-150 deg.C; optical rotation, [alpha]D<25>=+18.7 deg. (C=1.0, methanol); positive to KMnO4 decolorization reaction and negative to ninhydrin reaction, Sakaguchi reaction and FeCl3 reaction; nature, basic; solubility, soluble in acidic water, methanol, acetone, ethyl acetate and benzene, hardly soluble in basic water and insoluble in hexane. USE:Antibacterial agent effective to infectious diseases of respiratory organs caused by Gram-positive bacteria such as staphylococci. PREPARATION:The objective substance can be produced by culturing a bacterial strain belonging to Micromonospora genus such as Micromonospora griseorubia A11725 (FERM BP-705).
