abstract PURPOSE:To increase the sensitivity of a sensitive body and to reduce the dark attenuation by incorporating a specified squarylium pigment into the photosensitive layer. CONSTITUTION:A squarylium pigment represented by the formula is incorporated into the electrostatic charge generating layer of a sensitive body. In the formula, each of R1 and R2 is H, hydroxyl, methyl, carboxyl, halogen or trifluoromethyl and each of Ar1 and Ar2 is phenyl or substituted phenyl having 1-6C straight chain alkyl, hydroxyl, 1-4C alkoxy, halogen, nitro, cyano, carboxyl, 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl or trifluoromethyl. Thus, a sensitive body having spectral sensitivity over the visible region and the near infrared region, high sensitivity, superior electrostatic chargeability and dark decay is obtd.
