titleOfInvention Coating composition
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain an underwater-curable coating composition which gives a film having excellent adhesiveness in water and can prevent the corrosion, fouling, etc. of an underwater steel structure for a long time, by incorporating a chelating agent satisfying specified requirements into an underwater-curable thermosetting resin. n CONSTITUTION: An underwater-curable thermosetting resin (e.g., a bisphenol A epoxy resin or a polyester resin) is mixed with a chelating agent which can be dissolved in this resin homogeneously at ordinary temperatures and has a stability constant with a substrate metal of 5 or greater to give an objective underwater-curable coating composition. Examples of the chelating agent included ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and salicylic acid. The amount of the chelating agent is preferably 0.1W20pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. thermosetting resin. The term stability constant refers to a stability constant value of the formula determined at ordinary temperature on an aqueous solution of an ionic strength of 0.1. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
