abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title adhesive excellent in heat resistance, processability, transparency and heat-resistant adhesion and low in water absorptivity, by using 4,4'-bis(3-aminophenoxy)-3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbiphenyl as its diamine component. n CONSTITUTION: 4,4'-Bis(3-aminophenoxy)-3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbiphenyl as a diamine component is reacted with a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride of formula I (wherein R is a tetravalent group selected from among an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group, a monocyclic aromatic group, a condensed polycyclic aromatic group and a noncondensed polycyclic aromatic group in which the aromatic rings are joined with each other directly or through bridging members) at 60°C or lower for 4W24hr in an organic solvent to obtain a polyamic acid having repeating units of formula II and a logarithmic viscosity of 0.1W4.0dl/g (in an N,N-dimethylacetamide solution in 0.5g/100ml concentration at 35°C. This polyamic acid is dehydrated by heating to 100W400°C to obtain a heat- resistant adhesive comprising a polyimide having repeating units of formula III. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
