titleOfInvention Production of ti-al alloy casting
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a Ti-Al alloy casting having no defect by blending Ti and Al, melting by plasma arc heating under insert gas atmosphere to produce an ingot and remelting by heating under insert gas atmosphere having the specific pressure. n CONSTITUTION: The low oxygen content sponge Ti and high purity Al shot are blended and a skull furnace providing three Ar plasma arc torches is used and the melting raw material is charged into a water cooled copper crucible to melt for a fixed time. By tilting the crucible, the molten metal is cast into a cylindrical metallic mold to produce the ingot. This ingot is remelted by induction heating under the inert gas atmosphere with ≥50Torr pressure. The obtd. molten Ti-Al alloy is poured into a ceramic mold, which is sucked to vacuum, to cast into the desirable shape. By this method, mixing quantity of impurity, particularly, oxygen is restrained to low and precision casting without any defect of miss running, pin hole, etc., is obtd. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
