titleOfInvention Manufacture of cadmium electrode for battery
abstract PURPOSE:To enhance the gas absorbing characteristic at the time of charging by performing electrolytic plating to a Cd electrode obtained by adding Ni powder to CdO used for paste, and thereby forming a uniform porous metal layer at the surface of the electrode. CONSTITUTION:A paste is prepared from 94 parts by weight of CdO and 6 parts by weight of carbonyl Ni powder, whereto an ethylene glycol solution with 3wt.% polyvinyl alcohol is added together with 5wt.% polyethylene and 0.6wt.% vinylchloride-acrylonitrile short fiber. This is coated on an iron Ni- plated plate and dried to provide a Cd electrode. Plating is made with Ni- electrode placed on both sides in an electrolytic platingi bath containing NiSO4, NiCl2, H3BO3, etc., as main components. Then discharge is made in KOH aqueous solution using a Ni plate as mating electrode so as to retain the capacity for discharge compensation, followed by flushing and drying, and 20 times diluted liquid with fluoric resin dispersed is added to complete product. The amount of added Ni powder is favorably 5-10wt.% of CdO, and this construction provides extremely uniform porous metal film on the surface of Cd electrode, and O2 is well absorbed at the time of charging.
