abstract | The present invention provides a catalyst for producing an optically active aldehyde or optically active ketone which is an optically active carbonyl compound by selectively asymmetric hydrogenation of an α, β-unsaturated carbonyl compound, in particular, citral, geranial or neral. An object of the present invention is to provide a catalyst that is not soluble in a reaction mixture and a method for producing a corresponding optically active carbonyl compound in order to obtain optically active citronellal useful as a fragrance by selective asymmetric hydrogenation. In particular, it is an object of the present invention to provide a production method for obtaining citronellol having the same optical isomer without depending on the mixing ratio of neral and geranial in asymmetric hydrogenation of citral. The present invention includes at least one transition metal complex selected from Group 8 to 10 transition metals in the periodic table and an optically active cyclic nitrogen-containing compound, and if necessary, a catalyst containing an acid, The β-unsaturated carbonyl compound is asymmetrically hydrogenated. |
