abstract The present invention provides a method and system for providing enhanced personal video recorder (PVR) and interactive television program guide (IPG) functionality. An interactive television application (hereafter application) may be implemented to provide this functionality. The application is used to display a list of PVR recordings, enabling recording reservations to the PVR, recording configuration, viewing scheduled recording lists, configuring recording settings, or setting deletion priority for recordings. The application can integrate pay-per-view and PVR functionality. The application may notify the user of a change to be made to the recorded content of the PVR. The application can buffer the live program using a straight buffer created for each new program. Multiple tuners can be used to implement parallel buffers for programs that are broadcast simultaneously. Straight buffers can be used to manage or control program flow. Television content may be paused automatically when a user becomes available to the application. Multiple IPGs may be implemented for different users of the PVR. Other PVR related features are also provided.
