titleOfInvention Methods and Systems for HFN Handling in Base-Station Handover in Mobile Communication Networks
abstract Systems and methods are presented for addressing synchronization-unsynchronization of cryptosync between a network and mobile stations (eNBs) that may occur in mobility. De-synchronization is solved by forwarding the HFN and PDCP sequence number (s) from the source eNB to the target eNB. In order to avoid re-use of cryptosync for a given key, a reverse offset from the initial count (COUNT) value is used by the target eNB. These approaches do not require that OTA signaling and count value handling in the network be transparent to the mobile station.
