Ferroalloys, specifically stainless steels, are typically prepared by melting low-carbon steels under foam slag conditions and at least partially refining the molten steels by blowing oxygen molecules from molten steel from a lance located on its surface. During the refining step, at least one first metallurgically acceptable particulate material is introduced into the molten steel. The particulate material is selected from a chromium metal, a chromium-containing alloy and a chromium ore. |
