abstract | The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of grafted polyethylene comprising the steps of: a) fermenting a renewable starting material and optionally refining to produce at least one alcohol selected from a mixture of alcohols comprising ethanol and ethanol step; b) dehydrating the obtained alcohol to produce at least one alkene selected from a mixture of ethylene and an ethylene containing alkene in a first reactor, optionally refining said alkene to obtain ethylene; c) polymerizing ethylene in a second reactor to obtain polyethylene; d) isolating the polyethylene obtained in step c); e) an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof, an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid having 4 to 10 carbon atoms and a functional derivative thereof, a C 1 -C 8 alkyl ester of an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a glycidyl ester of an unsaturated carboxylic acid Grafting the polyethylene with at least one graft monomer selected from a metal salt of a carboxylic acid, a derivative thereof, or a metal salt of an unsaturated carboxylic acid. The present invention also relates to grafted polyethylene obtained by said process, copolymers and compositions comprising said polyethylene, and uses of said polyethylene. |
