The present invention relates to a ceramic honeycomb structure suitable for a particulate filter, having a plurality of inlet cells and outlet cells extending from the inlet face to the outlet face through the structure, the inlet face having an inlet face and an outlet face, the inlet face being open to the inlet cell, The outlet cell is opened on the outlet face and closed when it meets the inlet face, and the inlet and outlet cells are arranged in an alternating pattern with a square cross section.
