titleOfInvention | Hybrid oil and water cooled rolling |
abstract | A rolling mill (100) having a water spray header (130) at the inlet side (124) at the outlet side (126) of the oil-cooled top and bottom work rolls (102, 104) and the bottom work roll (104). Water cooling is used below pass line 128 to reduce heat in mill 100 without substantially risking drop-related surface defects during rolling. Water cooling can be used on the lower work roll 104 and oil portions that are no longer required to cool the lower work roll 104 can be diverted to the upper work roll 102. In some cases, the coolant portion of the flatness control can be operated solely by water cooling the lower roll 104 entirely. |
