Specific embodiments of the novel chemical synthesis pathway for lithium ion battery applications are disclosed herein. Accordingly, various embodiments are focused on the synthesis of a novel active material using NMC (lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide) as a precursor of a phosphate material having a layered crystal structure. Partial phosphate generation in the layered material stabilizes the material while maintaining large capacity properties of the layered material. Materials having a composition represented by the following formulas can be prepared: Li x Ni 1/4 Mn 1 /4 Co 1/4 P (1/4-y) O 2 ( where, 0≤x≤1, 0.001≤y≤0.25 Im), and Li x X 2/3 + y P 1 / 3- y O 2 ( where, 0≤x≤1, 0.001≤y≤0.33, X is being a combination of nickel, or a transition metal element). |
