abstract | The present invention relates to a novel process for preparing tiotropium bromide and provides a process for preparing tiotropium bromide, comprising the following steps: (i) scopine oxalate is reacted in diethylamine with an inert solvent Forming a pin; (ii) reacting scopin with methyl di- (2-thienyl) glycolate (MDTG) in an inert solvent in the presence of an inorganic base to form N-demethylthiotropium; (iii) reacting N-demethylthiotropium with bromomethane in an inert solvent to form tiotropium bromide; (iv) crystallizing tiotropium bromide in a mixture of methanol and acetone, and optionally optionally (v) micronizing the formed tiotropium bromide. |
