abstract |
A new system according to the invention for measuring the gas composition, pressure in the headspace of an aqueous electrolyte battery is described. The system includes a microcontroller that can use the composition and pressure information to connect the third electrode to the anode or cathode to balance the state of charge between the two. The results show that such a system can control the gas pressure inside the sealed flooded aqueous electrolyte battery to remain below 20 kPa (2 psi) and significantly extend the useful life of the battery. |
