Non-blood cell lysates extracted from complexes of peptides bound to peptides, mixtures of peptides or random peptide copolymers are used to prevent non-hemolytic and no cytolytic effects on erythrocytes within the body where bacterial pathogens and malignant cells are present. Selective cell lysis activity against non-naturally occurring pathogenic cells. The peptide is a diastriomer of a linear peptide in which the L-amino acid residue is replaced by the corresponding di-amino acid residue, or in which the hydrophobic and positively charged amino acids are each varied in various proportions and at least one of the amino acid residues is Cyclic derivatives of natural peptides, such as the di-amino acids dadcin and melittin and fragments thereof. Pharmaceutical compositions composed of non-blood cell lysates are also used for the treatment of various diseases caused by pathogens such as antimicrobial, fungal, viral mycoplasma and protozone infections and for the treatment of cancer. |
