titleOfInvention | Improved Tip Seal For Scroll-Type Vacuum Pump |
abstract | A tip sealing device for use in a scroll type vacuum pump has a sealing element and an excitation element attached to the sealing element. The scroll type vacuum pump includes first and second scroll blades superposed together to define one or more inter-blade pockets, and an eccentric drive device for generating orbital motion of the first scroll blade relative to the second scroll blade. . At least one of the first and second scroll blades has a sealing groove along its edge. The tip sealing device is located in a sealing groove between the first and second scroll blades. Since the excitation element is formed of an elastic material having a plurality of compressive cavities, the excitation element having the compressive cavity is more compressible than only the elastic material when limited by the sealing element. In one embodiment, the excitation element is a foam such as a low porosity urethane foam. In another embodiment, the excitation element is an elastomeric material with a predetermined cavity pattern. |
