Nanoscale particles, particle coatings / particle arrays and corresponding solidified materials are disclosed based on the ability to vary a composition comprising a wide range of metal and / or semimetal elements and corresponding compositions. In particular, semimetal oxides and metal-semiconductor compositions are disclosed in the form of improved nanosized particles and coatings formed from these nanosized particles. A composition comprising a rare earth metal and a dopant / additive with a rare earth metal are disclosed. The methods disclosed herein can be used to form composite compositions comprising a range of host compositions and dopants / additives. The particle coating may take the form of a particle array, which leads to a fused reticulated network of primary particles forming channels that result in nanosize of the primary particles in the payable primary particle aggregate. Suitable materials for optical applications are disclosed with several optical elements of interest. |
