abstract The display device has a display screen 130 comprising a first array of picture elements 135 for displaying image information and cathode means 120 for emitting electrons. These image elements 135 are grouped together in a subarray 132. The emitted electrons are concentrated by the electron concentrator 115, which redistributes the electrons into a uniform electron beam EB. One electron concentrator 115 is present in each subarray 132 of the image element 135 and the display device is randomized in the subarray 132 corresponding to the electron beam EB leaving the electron concentrator 115. And selection means 140 for deflecting the image element 135. The image displayed thereby may have a relatively high resolution. In a preferred embodiment, the brightness of the image is particularly high and the variation in the uniformity of brightness on the displayed image is reduced.
