Equalization of multiple signals received for soft handoff in wireless communication systems |
abstract |
A technique for performing equalization of a plurality of signals received by a terminal in soft handoff with a plurality of base stations. The signal received at the terminal is adjusted and digitized to provide a received sample ( y m ) stream, and then equalized / filtered into a plurality of coefficient sets to provide a plurality of transmit chip estimate streams X i (410). ). A coefficient set f k is provided for each base station and used to provide a corresponding transmit chip estimate stream. In addition, the plurality of transmit chip estimate streams are also processed 420 to provide a plurality of data symbol estimate streams d k , where one data symbol estimate stream is for each base station. The plurality of data symbol estimate streams are then subjected to a plurality of scaling factors ( k ) scaled to 430 and combined to provide a combined data symbol estimate stream d k (432). Processing for the plurality of base stations may be performed by a single hardware unit of time division multiplexing. |
