Method for purifying hydrocyanic acid |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a method for dehydrating hydrocyanic acid by fractional distillation. The process comprises 50 to 99.9% by weight of HCN, 0.1 to 40% by weight of water, 0 to 15% by weight of carbon at 1-25 bar at 100-130 ° C. bottom temperature and 25-54 ° C. top temperature without volatile stabilizer. Crude hydrocyanic acid is characterized by containing an oxide and optionally 0.01 to 1% by weight of a nonvolatile stabilizer. A discharge stream comprising purified anhydrous hydrogen cyanide and carbon oxides is obtained from the top and a bottom discharge stream comprising water and any nonvolatile stabilizers is obtained from the sump. |
