abstract | In order to maximize the production of propylene when limiting the external feed of ethylene, the C 4 cuts from the hydrocarbon cracking process are first self metathesized without any ethylene addition prior to any isobutylene removal. This is advantageous for the production reaction of propylene and pentene. The prepared ethylene and propylene are then removed to remove the stream of C 4 ′ and heavy components. The C 5 and heavy components are then removed to remove 1-butene, 2-butene, isobutylene, and a mixture of iso- and n-butane. The isobutylene is then removed, preferably with a catalytic distillation hydroisomerized isobutylene eliminator. The isobutylene free C 4 stream is mixed with the product ethylene removed from the auto metathesis product with any fresh external ethylene required and conventional metathesis is carried out to produce further propylene. |
