The present invention relates to a non-aqueous electrolyte having an electrode stabilizing additive, a stabilizing electrode, and an electrochemical device comprising the same. The present invention therefore provides an electrolyte containing an alkali metal salt, a polar aprotic solvent, and an electrode stabilizing additive. In some embodiments the additive comprises a substituted or unsubstituted cyclic or spirocyclic hydrocarbon containing at least one oxygen atom and at least one alkenyl or alkynyl group. When used in electrochemical devices such as lithium manganese oxide spinel electrodes or olivine or carbon-coated olivine electrodes, the novel electrolytes provide batteries with improved calender and cycle life. |
