abstract Methods for topical treatment of certain bone defects such as osteoporosis or osteocysts include fusion peptides comprising PTH or a second domain comprising a covalently crosslinked substrate domain and a first domain comprising BMP 2 or BMP 7; And topically administering an agent comprising a material suitable for forming a biodegradable matrix suitable for cell growth or internal growth, wherein the fusion peptide is covalently bound to the matrix. In one embodiment, the matrix contains at least one contrast agent and is preferably formed in the absence of growth factors. The matrix can be used for the treatment of fluid-filled cysts such as tarot cysts, ovarian cysts, arachnoid cysts, aneurysm osteocysts or hepatic cysts.
