abstract | Portable combinations for measuring glucose concentration values in a sample include a test strip port for receiving a disposable electrochemical test strip, and a glucose concentration value in a sample applied to a test strip housed within the test strip port. Means for calculating, and optionally a portable glucose meter (GM) with a rechargeable GM battery. The combination then has a portable supplemental battery pack (SBP). The combination also has a rechargeable web enabled portable device (WEPD) battery and a web based portable device (WEPD) with a wireless Internet connection. GM, SBP, and WEPD are electrically connected to enable power transfer between GM, SBP, and WEPD. GM and WEPD are communicatively connected to enable data transfer between GM and WEPD. GM and SBP can be detached from WEPD to form a portable combination. Finally, the combination has means for managing the battery operation of the combination. These means act to allow GM to draw the operating power from the SBP first, to draw the operating power from the WEPD battery to the secondary, and to draw the operating power from the GM battery in the third if the GM battery is present. |
