titleOfInvention How to license and deliver secure software using security engine-based hardware
abstract A license and application program is provided from a first server to a computing platform via a network. The host application derives a symmetric key from at least a portion of the user's password and a license management firmware component of a hardware-implemented security engine in the chipset of the computer system. The license is sent in a message signed by a symmetric key. The license management firmware component derives the symmetric key from at least a portion of the user password stored in the secure storage of the hardware implemented security engine, verifies the signature in the message using the symmetric key, and verifies the signature of the first server on the license. Decrypt the license using a first private key of the license management firmware component corresponding to the first public key to verify, obtain a second key, and decrypt the application program using the second key. Send a second key to the host application.
