titleOfInvention Variable geometry diffuser having extended travel and control method thereof
abstract An improved variable geometry diffuser (VGD) mechanism for use with a centrifugal compressor is disclosed. This VGD mechanism will extend substantially completely into the diffuser gap, and the VGD mechanism will be used more fully to control other operating functions. Since the VGD mechanism prevents reverse flow of the refrigerant gas through the diffuser gap during the compressor stopping process because the diffuser gap is substantially blocked by the complete extension of the diffuser ring, Will be used. During start-up, as the load and impeller speed increase, the gas flow through the diffuser gap can be delayed, so that transient surges and stalls can be effectively removed, thereby alleviating the problems caused by the starting load at low speeds. The VGD mechanism can be used for capacity control to achieve more effective turndown at low speeds.
