Aspects of the present invention provide single-stranded oligonucleotides that activate or increase the expression of SMN1 or SMN2. A further aspect provides compositions and kits comprising a single stranded oligonucleotide that activates or increases expression of SMN1 or SMN2 comprising exon 7. Also provided is a method of modulating the expression of SMN1 or SMN2 using a single stranded oligonucleotide. A further aspect of the invention provides a method of screening for candidate oligonucleotides that activate or increase expression of SMN1 or SMN2. |
