System for detecting inoperative inkjets in printheads ejecting clear ink using heated thermal substrates |
abstract |
The apparatus detects unactuated inkjets in the course of a printing operation. The apparatus includes a thermal substrate supply portion that is exposed to heat and darkened. And printed on a thermal substrate with the materials ejected from the printhead to form a test pattern. The contrast between the ejected materials and the exposed thermal substrate is imaged by the optical sensor to generate image data that can be analyzed to identify un-working inkjets. |
