titleOfInvention | LAN cable test apparatus and method |
abstract | An apparatus and method for troubleshooting and verifying a copper wireline LAN test system provides a series of resistance and capacitance measurements between all possible wire pairs using a pair of switch matrices and software methods. The measured values stored in the two-dimensional matrix are obtained. These stored measurements are obtained against a certain figure of merit and the crystal pattern in the matrix form is compared with that of a known good LAN cable system. An anomaly message in response to the mismatch is generated and provided to the operator via the user interface. Near-end crosstalk (NEXT) separation is obtained using mathematically calculated differential capacitance techniques. The anomaly message is generated in response to a differential capacitance value that is larger than the figure of merit correlated with the acceptable level of NEXT separation. |
