Pyrrolin-carboxy-lysine (PCL), a pyrrolysin analogue, which is a naturally occurring biosynthetically generated amino acid, and methods for generating biosynthetically PCL are disclosed herein. Also disclosed herein are proteins, polypeptides and peptides having PCL incorporated into such proteins, polypeptides and peptides. The site specific derivation of proteins, polypeptides and peptides having PCL or pyrrolysin incorporated therein is also disclosed herein. The cross-linking of proteins, polypeptides and peptides having PCL or pyrrolysin incorporated therein is also disclosed herein. |
