abstract Electrokinetically altered fluids (gas-enriched electrokinetic fluids) are provided which comprise an ionic aqueous solution of oxygen-containing nanostructures and have a stabilized charge in a sufficient amount to provide modulation of at least one of cell membrane potential and membrane conductivity. cellular and therapeutic compositions and methods for use in the treatment of diabetes and conditions or disorders associated with diabetes (eg, insulin resistance) or symptoms thereof. Electrokinetically altered ionic aqueous fluids are optionally provided in combination with other therapeutic agents. Particular aspects provide the regulation or modulation of intracellular signal transduction associated with said inflammatory responses by the modulation of at least one of cell membranes, membrane potential, membrane proteins such as membrane receptors, including but not limited to, coupled receptors. to the G protein (GPCR) and intercellular junctions (eg, firm junctions, void junctions, zone adherins and desmasomes). Other modalities include particular routes of administration or formulations for electrokinetically altered fluids (e.g., gas enriched and electrokinetically altered fluids and solutions) and therapeutic compositions :.
