abstract Compositions and procedures are provided for using the compositions for applications in an underground formation. The compositions include a composition, which comprises a nitrogen-containing olefinic compound; a composition comprising a water-soluble polymer prepared from the nitrogen-containing olefinic compound and optionally an olefinic comonomer, a composition which comprises the water-soluble polymer, a crosslinking or curing agent and a liquid; and a composition which comprises a clay, the water soluble polymer and a liquid. Those compositions can be used as or in compositions to enhance the recovery of oil, drilling fluids, reconditioning fluids, completion fluids, or combinations of any two or more of them.
