titleOfInvention ALKANOLAMINE PROCESS FOR THE REMOVAL OF CARBON DIOXIDE FROM INDUSTRIAL GASES USING COPPER AND AN ADDITIONAL INHIBITOR.
abstract Removal of CO2 from industrial combustion gases contg. CO2 and O2 is effected by contacting the gas with an aq. soln. of an alkanolamine (I) circulating between a gas/liq. contactor and a regenerator where the CO2 absorbed in the contactor is released. The improvement comprises using additives in the soln. to reduce degradation of (I). The additives, each used in an amt. of at least 50 ppm, comprise (a) divalent Cu and one or more of dihydroxyethylglycine (DEG), alkali metal carbonate, alkali metal or NH4 permanganate, Ni oxide and Bi oxide, or (b) DEG, a thiocyanate salt and Ni and/or Bi oxide. The additives reduce corrosion.
