A method for the preparation of hexahydro-furo[2,3-b]furan-3-ol of formula (7) as well as intermediates for use in the method are disclosed, wherein the method relates to a stereoselective method for the preparation of hexahydro-furo[2,3-b]furan-3-ol, in which the stereochemistry of the intermediates or the final compound is controlled, which allows the synthesis of the stereoisomers of hexahydro-furo[2,3-b]furan-3-ol. This method is amenable to industrial scaling up. |
