abstract The invention relates to fuel bundles for a nuclear reactor. The fuel beam, in one embodiment of the invention, comprises a plurality of fuel elements, each including a first recycled uranium fuel component, and a second fuel component of at least one of the depleted uranium and natural uranium with the first fuel component, wherein the first and second blended components have a first fissionable content of less than 1.2% by weight U. The fuel beam, in a further embodiment of the invention, comprises a first fuel element including recycled uranium, the first fuel element having a first fissionable content of not less than 0.72% by weight U, and a second element of fuel including at least one of the depleted uranium and natural uranium, the second fuel element having a second fissionable content of not more than 0.71% by weight U.
