titleOfInvention WET GRINDING GYPSUM WITH POLYCARBOXYLATES
abstract 1. A method of obtaining a finely ground gypsum product, including:! obtaining a feed material with an initial average particle size; ! obtaining a solution of a polycarboxylate dispersant in water; ! adding feed material to the solution to form a slurry; ! wet milling of the suspension in order to reduce the average particle size of the feed material. ! 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of preparing the solution further comprises dispersing the polycarboxylate powder in water and holding the solution for at least 12 hours! 3. The method of claim 2, wherein said holding step is carried out for at least 24 hours! 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the polycarboxylate dispersant comprises at least three repeating units comprising acrylic units, maleic acid repeating units and long chain polyether repeating units. ! 5. The method of claim 1, wherein said milling is continued until an average particle size of about 1 to 3 microns is reached. ! 6. The method of claim 1, wherein said addition step uses from about 0.1 to 5 weight percent of dry polycarboxylate dispersant based on the weight of the feed. ! 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the feed comprises one of the materials of the group consisting of natural gypsum, calcium carbonate, anhydrous calcium sulfate, and combinations thereof. ! 8. The method of claim 1, wherein said grinding occurs in a ball mill. ! 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising reintroducing the doses of the dispersant during said grinding process. ! 10. The method according to claim 9, wherein said step of repeated
