FIELD: nuclear reactors. SUBSTANCE: according to invention, moderator such as B II 4C is introduced in fast reactor so as to soften neutron spectrum. Growth in activity occurring in case of coolant loss is reduced in this way at all points of reactor. Moderating element may be mixed up with nuclear fuel or with material other than that in homogeneous form or placed in heterogeneous form in special needle members mounted among needle members containing nuclear fuel or other material.
