abstract A method is described for producing beta- (5-nitrofuryl) acrolein, an intermediate in the synthesis of furagin and furacrilin, a medical and veterinary drug for treating bacterial infections, by hydrolysis of 5-nitrofurfural diacetate to 5-nitrofurfural with subsequent condensation of acetic aldehyde with 5-nitrofurfurfur that concentrated acetic acid is used as a solvent and the process is carried out in one step.
