An oral composition such as a dentifrice or mouth-wash, comprises an effective antiplaque amount of a substantially water-insoluble noncationic antibacterial agents, such as 2,4, 4'-trichloro-2'-hydroxy-diphenyl other (Triclosan) and an antibacterial-enhancing agent which enhances the delivery of said antibacterial agent to and retention thereof on, oral surfaces, such as a synthetic anionic polymeric polycarboxylate having a molecular weight of about 1,000 to about 1,000,000 and an orally acceptable vehicle effective to enable said antibacterial agent to dissolve in saliva in effective antiplaque amount. |
